Deacon Jan Brown was ordained as a vocational deacon on October 31, 2010 at St. Stephen’s Cathedral in Harrisburg and served at St. John Episcopal Church in York and St. Paul’s in Manheim. She is pleased at God’s sense of humor in bringing her to ministry at St. Andrew’s, York, the parish in which she grew up.
Deacon Jan is a licensed clinical social worker and is employed as a psychotherapist in a private psychiatric practice in Lancaster. She earned her bachelor’s degree at Dickinson College and her Master of Social Work degree at Virginia Commonwealth University. Her pursuits include bicycling, whale watch cruises, conversation, Celtic spirituality, pilgrimage and travel to Scotland, and taking courses with the Stevenson School for Ministry for enjoyment.
She is interested in ministries of reconciliation, community building, pastoral care and healing, and is exploring Thistle Farms community for women survivors of trafficking, addiction, and incarceration.
Deacon Jan shares a home in Lititz, PA with her daughter Barbara. Her Border Terrier, Dali, makes periodic Zoom appearances in diocesan meetings and parish “coffee hour” gatherings after worship services.
